Bare flesh
bare bones
A barely bare soul
You silently count how many times
he blinks
As he says,
"I love you so much."
You exhale dim fog onto his hair
Like a prayer
Wonder why you don't feel
the Weight
Wonder if you would shake the stars
with your laughter
sincere
severe
Wonder if you would wake the neighbors
You watch his eyes dilate as you
turn up the light
as if you willed them to widen
as if amazed at your energy
your synergy
You watch his gaze soften as you
purse a smile
"It's been a while."
A while since we
created electricity
built castles
experienced forever
but never
have we ever
cut ourselves open
You look upon his signature
on your waist
now dry
And wonder why
it changes color
But nothing lasts forever
The signature
The laughter
The prayer.
[Thanks Nuyocrian,
for the inspiration.]
